Murano Italian Glass Ashtray " Sommerso" Violet Color

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Small but massive Murano glass ashtray; it was made in one elegant purple color, has a strong and original line, with sharp, decisive cuts and very accentuated edges; created between 1965 and 1968 by Murano master craftsmen using the " sommerso" glass technique; such processing is very old; usually it starts from a blown and solid transparent glass that is passed through different crucibles to obtain different colors, in this case instead the transparent glass that came out of the furnace was put in a single crucible containing metallic salts of manganese dioxide and nickel oxide that gave the glass the beautiful purple color; the master glassmaker helping himself with special smooth tools gave the linear and geometric shape to the ashtray, which once cooled down went on to the delicate phase of flattening and polishing by hand with cork grinding wheels, operations that made it possible to have the surfaces perfectly flattened, smoothed and exceptionally polished. Master craftsmen from Murano have mastered the color of glass with their signature mastery, given ashtrays a strong and elegant shape, elaborated and subjected glass to their artistic sensibility, creating a unique and fantastic object, which fascinates us with its unparalleled craftsmanship that contributes to the creation of special and engaging plays of light. Measures width cm.18, depth cm.14, and height cm.7. The ashtray is in good condition. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects
