Three "Barbaric Jewels" Fused Glass Ashtrays by Michael & Frances Higgins
By Michael Higgins, Higgins Glass, Michael and Frances Higgins
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Glass artists Michael and Frances Higgins were considered to be Pioneers of the fused glass process. The Chicagan duo first developed their craft for Higgins Studio in 1948 and is still in production today. These unique pieces produced by the husband and wife team were featured in numerous displays as well as the pivotal exhibition "Glass 1959" at The Toledo Museum of Art. Today their work is considered highly collectible and is prized by both museums and private collectors alike. This set of three "Barbaric Jewels" fused glass ashtrays are a testament to Higgins' innovative technique. The stunning pieces are comprised of softly smoked glass punctuated with a variety of vibrant glass "jewels" and 22-karat gold accents. The Higgins signature is also in 22K gold close to the edge of each item. Being made of Fused glass, the design is neatly tucked away between the two pieces of glass, allowing you to use the ashtray and wash clean without worry of damaging the intricate artwork within the glass. These exquisite pieces could be displayed as a collection, or as individuals throughout the home. Alternatively they can be utilized for their original purpose. They could be used in both residential and hospitality applications. Measurements: Large round ashtray...
