About the Item

This is an incredible piece of craftsmanship! I was just 10 years old when my father, who worked in Milan where I grew up, bought this bowl in Venice together with a huge Fazzoletto Vase of the same design and technique. Unfortunately, I damaged it, but that's a story for another day! We spent a whole day in Murano and that day will always be present in my life, even though I was just a boy at the time. There are some fine scratches on the upper rim as this bowl was used as an ashtray on several special occasions when guests were invited. Ø 16cm ~ height: 8.3cm ~ weight: 2253grs (!) Fulvio Bianconi was based in Milan. He has worked with the Mondadori, Bompiani and Garzanti publishing houses throughout his career, specialising in graphic design and illustration. Bianconi has also devoted his time to creating frescoes for Galtrucco shops and pavilions for the Campionaria trade fair. These activities were accompanied by a constant interest in glass. In 1946, Bianconi undertook multiple journeys to Murano with the objective of acquiring knowledge and expertise in the field of glass art. His encounter with Paolo Venini proved pivotal; the ingenuity of the nascent generation signalled a pivotal moment in the trajectory of the VENINI company. Bianconi is engaged in a continuous process of exploration and experimentation with new techniques for working with glass, including the reinterpretation of traditional knowledge. New movements and colours are created in the glass, thereby reshaping the link between the history of Murano and great modernity. The contamination of craftsmanship with creative whim has given rise to numerous iconic works, including the Figure della Commedia dell'Arte, Tiepolo, Fazzoletto, Sirene and Pezzati.
