American Sterling Silver 3 Pint Cocktail Shaker c.1945 by Tuttle

About the Item

An absolutely stunning huge cocktail shaker in American sterling silver by the Boston silversmith, Tuttle. This towering example towers 14" tall with a diameter measuring 4 1/2" and weighing in at 36.70 Troy ounces or 1141.4 Grams, over a kilo of sterling silver! The underside is fully marked "Sterling" and "3 Pints". During the term of office of President Calvin Coolidge, Tuttle adopted the custom of marking each piece with a crescent and the initials of the incumbent President of the United States. The Roman numeral under the crescent indicates on what year of the presidency the piece was produced. The mark is completed by the pine tree, a patriotic symbol taken from the ancient Pine Tree Shilling of Massachusetts colony. This piece is marked HT for Harry Truman and the Roman numeral I underneath for the year 1945. A true stunner in excellent condition, minor interior wear commensurate with age. Item: 43245.
