Antique 19th Century Victorian Solid Silver Tantalus Set, Betjemann's c.1897

About the Item

Antique 19th Century Victorian three-bottle tantalus features brass detailing and a locking mechanism stamped with "BETJEMANN'S PATENT 43014, LONDON." A small silver plaque adorns the base. Each decanter is handcrafted from ribbed cut ‘striker’ glass with a solid silver collar and original ribbed stopper. Hallmarked English (925 Standard), London, year 1897 (b), though the maker's mark has been rubbed. Betjemann's Patent refers to innovations by 19th-century English inventor George Betjemann, particularly known for his work on Tantalus sets. These sets, typically used to store decanters, featured intricate locking mechanisms to prevent unauthorised access, combining both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Betjemann's designs remain valued for their craftsmanship and ingenuity. CONDITION In Great Condition - Wear expected with age. Please refer to photographs.
