About the Item

Antique tower-shaped beer stein by Theodor Wieseler, it served as a prototype for one of the towers of Nuremberg Castle; German, late 19th century, with blue-violet salt glaze and a detailed pewter lid with thumb rest. Inscribed "T.W. Legally Protected" on the bottom. Theodor Wieseler was to Nuremberg what Josef Mayer was to Munich; both owned interior design magazines. They offered everything for the home, including beer steins. The company also included a beer stein factory with a pewter foundry and painting shop, a finishing workshop with a pewter foundry and paint shop. In 1901, Theodor Wieseler began expanding his business outside of Nuremberg.
