Antique Cut Crystal English Decanter Tantalus Silver Plated John Round Sheffield
About the Item
A Superb Sheffield Silverplated Three Bottle English Spirits or Wine Tantalus, complete with its original full led hand cut crystal decanters, of exceptional quality, late Nineteenth Century.
Each decanter is hand cut depicting strawberry cut decoration above a chevron cut band, underneath with star cut design.
Condition: Good condition, with no losses. The frame has no wear to silvering, original firm fitting stoppers are perfect. Nice clear marks for renowned Silversmiths John Round in Sheffield.
Height: (entire including ring holder handle) 12” (30.5cm). Width: (base frame) 8” (20.25cm). Depth: 8” (20.25cm).

John Round Silversmiths: Established in 1847 by John Round at Sheffield and was located at Tudor Street. John Round's son, Edwin, became a partner shortly after. By 1876 a second factory was opened at the Arundel Plate Works. The business amalgamated with Ridge, Allcard & Co. in 1886. The firm also had a presence in London (8, Holborn Circus and 112, Hatton Garden and 15, Charterhouse Street and Gray's Inn Chambers, 20, High Holborn) and Montreal (8, Union Buildings, Francois Xavier Street, later, Coristine Building, St. Paul Street), and was acquired in the 1930's by Joseph Rodgers & Sons and transferred to their Pond Hill Works.
