About the Item

Rare and superb workmanship, globe design, serving kettle, country house antique. This stunning and all handcrafted antique pouring 'kettle' is another one of our recent great finds. Given its design, expensive materials and best ever workmanship one can understand that a countryhouse antique like this would only have been affordable for the very well to do in the early 1800s. If you look at the beauty of the design and the way this piece was hand-crafted then it is safe to say that this certainly is not your average household item. This is more like top quality engeneering and a piece of art to look at. We have filled the vessel with water and it does not leak. However, when we open the velve-like handle on top (by moving it forward and down), no water comes out. We believe this is because of a calcium obstruction inside the valve/tap. Otherwise, everything is there, including the lid to the circular container in the center of the globe vessel. We think this is where hot coals would have been put in to keep the water, tea or coffee warm. So this work of art brass pouring vessel from the early 1800s may very well be made functional again, but on display as it is, to us, this also is the ideal work of art and talking piece for a coffee shop, a restaurant or for a home of anyone who makes a living in either the coffee industry or in the restaurant business etc. Simply looking at the abundance and the quality of the details makes you wonder how much time and effort was put into hand-crafting this piece. Never mind the amount of time it must have first took to design and draw all these details on paper. From the stunning overal design, the striking handles to the smallest of details on the decorations in the brass, you just don't find that kind of dedication anymore. And in the earliest years of the 1800s maybe there were no patents yet in the UK or England, because we don't understand how such a stunning piece of engineering and workmanship does not have a patent number or anything like that stamped or cast in it. Either way and like we mentioned before, this most certainly was not a 'kettle' for everyone, this work of beauty would have graced the credenza or drinks table or kitchen an early 1800s mansion or countryhouse. Apart from a few minor dents in and bends to some of the brass elements this almost 200 year old antique is in superb condition and we are certain it will never fail to impress, no matter where you decide to have it on display. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare set of five antique Georgian English sterling silver bottle labels or tickets made by Hester Bateman, part of our wine related silverware collection These exceptional and collectable George III sterling silver bottle labels have a neoclassical urn shaped form. These antique silver labels or tickets are further ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pin struck ribbon bow designs accented with suspended leaf festoons. The body of each label is engraved with the individual wine or spirit: 'Port', 'Geneva', 'Claret', 'Rum' and 'Madeira'. These Georgian silver bottle labels are suspended by two ring loops to the corners of the urn designs and connected by silver round link chains. These fine bottle labels, crafted by the renowned female London silversmith Hester Bateman, are an exceptional example of their type.
