Barware Leather Case Tantalus with Whiskey and Cognac Decanters, circa 1960

About the Item

This stunning modernist barware accessory, tantalus, or "cave a liqueur," is a perfect example of Mid-Century design. The piece was crafted in France circa 1960. The hand-stitched brown leather case is ornate, with a gilt metal buckle and a tall handle. Two bar green decanters are made of hand-blown glass, square in shape, and with a ball stopper. Each decanter has a leather label with the following brands: Whiskey and Cognac. There is no visible designer's mark. Dimensions: Overall: 9.44 in wide (24 cm) x 5.13 in deep (13 cm) x 15.75 in high (40 cm) Each decanter measures 3.75 in wide (9.5 cm) x 3.75 in deep (9.5 cm) x 11 in high (28 cm).
