About the Item

A charming and highly unusual mid century silver plated wine bottle holder in the shape of a Dachshund / teckel or sausage dog. Made in Spain in c. 1950, this is a very rare model. In all likelihood it was a private commission. It features two bottle holders supported on the back of a dachshund dog, whose head, tail and feet are all beautifully and realistically modelled. There is a serial number to the base together with a stamp for ‘GRANDA’, the prestigious Spanish gold and silversmith. The company’s main focus has always been liturgical objects of the highest order, but in the middle of the 20th century they also made non-religious objects by commission. It is likely that this was made as one of those objects, as the modelling is of excellent quality. It has been recently re-plated and is in superb condition.
