1870s French Glazed 'Cave à Liqueurs' or Liquor Cellar

About the Item

An exquisite French 'Cave à Liqueur', tantalus, or liqueur cellar, in delicate wood veneer and boule marquetry, with fitted interior and gilded cut glass decanters and glasses, dating to the 19th century. This delightful set opens by means of an undulating hinged lid, which rests neatly above the case interior, displaying a fine brass lock escutcheon at the base of a profusely detailed shielddesign. Two hinged side panels open out for ease of access to the quartet of high quality decanters, which sits between two tiers of ornately gilded drinking glasses (of which some are missing, and others are later replacements). The fitted interior can be completely removed by wayof a gilded handle. Some minor signs of wear are present, as would be expected in a piece of this age and usage.
