French 'Marquise De Sevigne' Tantalus Set with Leather Figural Book Case or Box

About the Item

This antique tantalus set originates from France and dates to approximately 1920 and done in a Renaissance style. The case is composed of softwood with a leather exterior and gilt borders and the front mimmicks books in order to be concealed on a bookcase. The inside has fitted compartments for the glass bottle and six surviving shot glass which have stylized leaf decoration done in gilt. The box is signed 'ALA Marquise de Sevigne, Paris" in gilt on the front of the base. Please note the surviving bottle and glasses are in good period condition, but there is one missing bottle and two glasses and considerable wear to the exterior of the case as presented.
