George 11nd Balustroid Wine Drinking Glass Bell Bowl Knopped Stem, Circa 1740

About the Item

This is a good handblown, English, Georgian, 'Balustroid' wine drinking glass, dating from the middle of the 18th century, George XI period, circa 1740. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm, with no two glasses being the same. This glass has a well shaped bell bowl which sits on a solid glass stem having a ball shoulder knop and a basal knop above the foot. The stem leads to a good wide conical folded foot having a rough snapped off pontil mark to the underside. Dimensions in Inches: Bowl diameter: 2.38 Foot diameter: 2.82 Height: 5.63 There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration and the glass has a nice ring to it when tapped with a finger.
