Georgian Regency Facet Cut Glass Wine Rinser Bowls circa 1820 Set of Six

About the Item

If you are looking for a set of six wine rinsers in perfect condition this classic Regency set is for you.. Wine rinsers were used on the formal table for washing wine glasses between meal courses. When a new wine was bought to the table, the glasses would be placed in the rinser to flush the previous wine from the glass. The lip at opposing sides are intended to hold the stem of a wine glass. The body of this set is of a large scale and features a hexadecagon cut bottom terminating into ball cut oval facets at the top. In mathematics, a hexadecagon is a sixteen-sided polygon. A regular hexadecagon is when all angles are equal and all sides are congruent.

The stem leads to a conical foot having a snapped off pontil mark to the underside, which has been ground smooth. There are no chips, cracks or any evidence of restoration.
