About the Item

An Edwardian-style silver jigger by Grish Chunder Dutt. This double sided jigger is signed Grish and also has hallmarks for India and silver. This piece is in very good condition with only light wear typical for its age including a small dent near the bottom of the 1 oz jigger. It stands 4 in tall. Grish Chunder Dutt is considered to be one of the most important silversmiths of his time. He opened his workshop in Calcutta in the late 1800s and quickly became popular among British and Indian royalty due to the quality of the shop's workmanship. Often compared to Hamilton &Co., Dutt's style was often more elaborate, depicting scenes of daily life, farm scenes and animals. The award-winning shop produced all sorts of silver products from tea services to cups and boxes. The firm remained family owned until it closed in 1947.
