About the Item

A superb large silver plated Champagne bucket/wine cooler of excellent quality with maker's mark for the French 'Art Moderne' designer Jean Després, featuring his signature 'Gourmette' chainlink decoration. This weighty silver plated ice bucket is large enough to chill a Magnum of champagne or up to 3 standard size bottles at one time. Dimensions: 27.5 cm/10⅞ inches (height) x 27 cm/10⅜ inches (diameter) Jean Després (1889–1980) was a French jewellery designer and silversmith known for his innovative and avant-garde designs during the Art Deco period. He gained prominence in the 1920s and 1930s for his bold and geometric jewellery creations, often incorporating unconventional materials like aluminium, steel, and bronze. Després' designs were characterised by their modernist aesthetic, which embraced simplicity, clean lines, and geometric shapes, and he was also known for his collaborations with prominent artists and designers of his time. Després worked closely with Picasso, translating the artist's sketches and designs into wearable jewellery pieces. Bentleys are Members of LAPADA, the London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association.
