Kings Pattern Cut Glass Punch Bowl by Hawkes

About the Item

Regal in shape and stature, this stunning cut glass two-piece punch bowl by T.G. Hawkes & Co. exhibits the brilliant Kings pattern. Unsurpassed in both beauty and clarity, the Kings pattern is the rarest of the Hawkes "royal family," which also includes the coveted Queens and Princess patterns. Together, these motifs are among the most sought-after patterns by collectors of American Brilliant cut glass. Established in 1880 by Thomas G. Hawkes, the Hawkes Company was making glass for the White House by 1886. In 1889, two of their cut glass patterns won the Grand Prize in the Paris Exposition. This highly coveted award not only brought prestige to Hawkes, but catapulted American glass companies onto the international stage. By the 20th century, American cut glass was world-renowned, recognized for its superiority and advanced glass-making methods, with Hawkes' Cut Glass Company providing some of the finest and most inspired pieces of the period.
