Large Italian Tortoise Serving Tray in Murano Art Glass Style 1970s. This impressive vintage Murano art glass style serving tray showcases a striking 14-inch tortoise or leopard pattern, exuding timeless elegance. Ideal for serving or display, this Italian art glass piece likely originates from Empoli, near Florence, known for its modern glassware. Gorgeous centerpiece serving tray in tortoise-shell-effect, bring sophistication to any table with this stunning decorative fruit bowl in rich brown tones and yellow hues, it serves both functionally as a serving tray and decoratively as an artistic centerpiece. Evoking luxury and exoticism its amber tortoiseshell pattern complements various design styles seamlessly. This beautiful decorative piece reflects a classic design with enduring appeal in the style of Christian Dior manufactured by Empoli. Dimensions: 14 inches in diameter x 2.25 inches in height. No Hallmark. Made in Italy circa 1970s. Good condition, some light scratches. The glasses are props only to show the scale, not part of the sale. Originating from Italy in the 1970s-80s, this bowl features the Tartaruga (tortoise) pattern, boasting deep topaz and amber hues reminiscent of popular 19th-century European turtle shell items. The technique involves two layers of hand-blown glass infused with light and dark brown elements. The tortoiseshell art glass bowl was first patented in London in 1880 by Francis Pohl and S.A. Whitman. Franz Pohl, associated with the Josephinenhütte glassworks in the Sudeten mountains, further developed the tortoise pattern, revolutionizing glassmaking possibilities of the time. His innovative design garnered widespread acclaim and was widely imitated for years thereafter.
