Lebkuecher (for Cartier/ Tiffany?) Sterling Silver Ice Bucket in Art Deco Style
About the Item
Lebkuecher & Co., possibly made for Tiffany & Co. or Cartier, sterling silver ice bucket in Art Deco style, with an elegant, geometric design, with two handles, lined with a Pyrex Thermos. It measures 12'' in height with the lid (9 1/4'' without) by 6'' in diameter. Gross weight (including the liner) is 78 troy ounces and hallmarks as shown.
Lebkuecher was a Newark-based silversmith, active in the 1890s and early 1900s, who is renowned for his Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau objects. Lebkuecher was mentioned in Architectural Digest, as “a company known for crafting medals for the Rough Riders, including Theodore Roosevelt.” The partners were Arthur Lebkuecher, Francis Lebkuecher and Charles Wientge, former superintendent & designer at the highly respected Howard Sterling Company. Lebkuecher & Co. changed to F.A. Lester and, in 1918, was taken over by the Elder Company.
They also made silver for Tiffany & Co. and Cartier and this ice bucket might have been made for either of these prestigious brands.
