About the Item

An eccentric and unusual novelty vintage bottle opener in the shape of a beetle, made by Swarovski in c. 1978. The body of the beetle is well defined with a great presence. It is rhodium plated, and is the ‘smooth’ type (a similar model with a rougher body also existed). The particular design is very unusual and rare. Introduced in 1978, it was retired only five years later in 1983. Considering this short production time frame it has become a highly collectable piece. The metal modelling is in very good condition. The stone has a tiny almost imperceptible nibble to the rear edge only noticeable by touch – completely understandable given that this was originally intended to be used as a bottle opener.
