1810 Wedgwood Shadow Leaf Creamware Bowls, Set of 4
About the Item
Offered is an extremely rare set of 4 hand-painted 1790-1810 creamware shallow soup bowls, by famed English potter Josiah Wedgwood. Only a few pieces remain in this coveted pattern, called "Shadow Leaf."
Decorated with aesthetic movement styled fallen leaves against a cream ground with a mustard yellow border, each bowl is impressed with Wedgwood on the reverse. The design was influenced by the earlier naturalistic Meissen pieces painted by Johann Gottfried Klinger in the mid to early 18th century. An example of pieces in the identical pattern are in the Dallas Museum of Art in their online collection. One bowl has age appropriate crazing as photographed and noted.
