About the Item

This substantial 1930s Red Wing mixing or serving bowl is a classic example of early American utilitarian stoneware. Finished in a warm tan glaze with two vivid cobalt blue bands, the bowl reflects the understated elegance and practical beauty of pre-war Midwestern ceramics. It’s perfect for display or everyday use in a farmhouse kitchen or vintage-inspired home. In overall excellent vintage condition, the bowl shows only faint surface wear on the base consistent with age. There are no chips or cracks, and the glaze remains smooth and a testament to the enduring quality of Red Wing craftsmanship. Red Wing Pottery, based in Red Wing, Minnesota, was one of the most prominent American stoneware manufacturers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for its durable, hand-turned wares, Red Wing specialized in functional forms such as crocks, jugs, and mixing bowls, which became staples in homes across the country. During the 1920s and 1930s, Red Wing and contemporaries like McCoy, Roseville, and Hull Pottery helped define a distinctly American style of ceramic production: sturdy, useful, and pleasingly designed. This bowl is not only a beautiful piece of vintage Americana, but also a functional object that connects to a proud tradition of American ceramic artistry.
