About the Item

Description Sharing with you this new arrival and very happy with it. Visible is a Wanli period Kraak klapmuts in cobalt blue of larger size. In general the piece is already of high quality but the egret mark at the base makes it somewhat more special. Rinaldi says the following about the egret marks (see photos for examples); 'Therefore a tentative dating for Kraak wares with the egret mark should be c.1595-1625 A further tool to establish a dating for these pieces is the egret itself which, as time goes by, changes he drastically. This deterioration can be fully appreciated in the three examples. In early specimens the egret is tall and slender, its body placed almost on a vertical line. At times his beak is open, at others closed. Two circles drawn at the end of the legs probably represent a whirl around the legs created by the shallow water in movement. In the second specimen a remarkable deterioration can be seen with the body of the bird becoming hunched and rounded and the disappearance of water-whirls around the legs. In the third example the bird has become so stylized that it is almost meaningless' The egret on this piece can be attributed to the early specimens in our opinion. The other interesting thing about this piece is the restoration, with green material. We have not really seen this before like this, very interesting. There is a good possibility that it is an old glass repair.
