First Period Worcester Porcelain Large Pair of Openwork Fruit Baskets
About the Item
First Period Worcester porcelain large pair of openwork fruit baskets,
Printed "Pine Cone" pattern,
Circa 1770-1775.
The large reticulated baskets are decorated with the printed underglaze blue pine cone pattern in the central well. The rim with a blue cell band (referenced by The Gardiner as delft style 76). The border with oval and urn-shaped large cutouts. The sides are reticulated with a design of overlapping rings. On the exterior blue florets at each intersection.
These baskets are particularly large.
Dimensions: Diameter 10 1/2 inches x 2 3/4 inches high
Marks: One with shaped blue crescent
Reference: The Gardiner Museum, Toronto, Canada, Object # G99.3.39 for a slightly smaller example of this shape described as "Large round twig fruit basket". It is mentioned that the form is after a Meissen or Chelsea prototype.
