Antique American Sterling Silver Bowl Gorham Manufacturing Company

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique American sterling silver bowl made by Gorham Manufacturing Company; an addition to AC Silver's dining silverware collection. This exceptional antique American sterling silver bowl has a square rounded form with incurved corners, onto a circular collet foot. Each side of the body of this unusual Gorham bowl is embellished with an alternating applied copper design modelled in the form of expedition and warrior characters, in addition to foliage surrounded by birds in flight. The surface of the bowl is further ornamented with engraved grassy and rock based terrain textures, accented with foliage to the foreground. The upper rim is encompassed with an applied moulded border. The hallmarks struck to the underside of this impressive bowl include: Maker's mark: G (Gorham Manufacturing Company) Anchor mark: Gorham trademark anchor Date mark: Q (1884) Silver quality/purity mark: Sterling, .925 (925/1000) Registration number: 250 Such original examples highly desirable and are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This antique sterling silver Gorham bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The Gorham hallmarks struck to the underside of the bowl are all very clear.
