Italian 19th Century Passata Bowl
About the Item
A painterly passata bowl from the Puglia region of Italy, 19th century. The large terracotta bowl features an enthusiastic glaze of splatterware in bright green over a buttery yellow slip on the inside and is left natural clay on the exterior. This vessel would have been used in peak tomato season to make fresh tomato sauce at quantity. In charming antique condition, a conversation piece to display or use for light duty storage. Evidence of five small patches in the bottom of the bowl. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition.
