Modernist Chrome Fruit Bowl by Lino Sabattini

About the Item

A very nice modernist chrome fruit bowl by Lino Sabattini, circa 1970s. The design features a long clean look with round swirls on each end. The piece is in very good vintage condition and measures 22"W x 7.5"D x 2.5"H; it is signed on the underside. #2701 Lino Sabattini is an Italian designer best known for his innovative design of silver-plated candle holders, vases, kettles, and other household wares. Working in the same vein as his friend and mentor the architect Gio Ponti, founder of Domus magazine, Sabattini was interested in fusing Neo-Classicism with Modernist and Minimalist aesthetics. Born on September 23, 1925 in Corregio, Italy, he studied metalsmithing while working in a brass shop as a teenager, and later learned pottery from a German expatriate craftsman named Rolando Hettner. Sabattini went on to work in Paris and Milan for the Christofle company, eventually forming his own company, Argenteria Sabattini, in 1964. Today, his works are held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others. Sabattini lives and works in Bregnano, Italy.
