About the Item
Introducing a rare, post war serving bowl hand-carved from solid Hinoki Cedar. Rich in history, as it was crafted in occupied Japan with Japanese materials and labor when post war Japan was severely lacking both and recovering from the most intense bombing campaign in Human history. Hinoki cedar has been revered in Japan for over a thousand years. It was the wood of choice for ancient temples and shrines, including the Ise Jingu, one of the most sacred sites in Japan. Its spiritual significance lies in its purity, strength, and longevity. Traditionally, Hinoki was believed to invite good fortune and purify spaces, making it a preferred material for Shinto shrines, religious altars, and even bathhouses.
Left in it's original, patinaed condition this serving bowl, crafted in the shadow and ashes of the first and only atomic blasts targeting humans, this serving bowl is ideal for both collectors and designers alike searching for an authentically vintage, and character-rich bowl that is as storied as it is aesthetically captivating. Make it yours today before its gone forever.
