About the Item

Vintage majolica large serving bowl was handmade of high fired terra cotta by Ceramica Artistica Solimene in Vietri, Italy. The pieces are hand painted in their trademark Decoro Campagna (Country Style) pattern that consists of different animal patterns on various colors that can be either freely mixed on the tablescape or used as a single pattern and color setting. Campagna Pesce is decorated with whimsical white and red fishes and green seaweed algae on blue border accentuated with red dots. Vincenzo Solimene, whose family has been working in ceramics business for over a century, founded Ceramica Artistica Solimene in 1946 in the small town of Vietri Sul Mare on the Amalfi coast in Campagna region. Their ceramics are worked and painted entirely by hand, making each piece truly unique. While Campagna Pesce is a current pattern that is still in production, the bowl is not currently in stock on company website, making it a rare find. The pattern was in production since at least early 1980s; some of the discontinued shapes can be found in company's historic catalog.
