Early 20th Century French Carved Butcher Block with Back and Meat Cleaver Knife

About the Item

This antique "Billot de Boucher", or butcher block was crafted in southwest France, circa 1920. The piece stands on four turned legs decorated with diamond shape motifs at the shoulder, over a carved three-side scalloped apron. The tabletop, made of mixed woods including maple and beech wood, features a carving station surface shaped from generations of use, and embellished with metal brackets at each corner; the station sits over a center drawer dressed with the original bronze handle. The original carved back with side volutes is mounted behind an iron knife storage slot; the back is decorated with a patinated iron cow head sculpture at the pediment. The butcher table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorns a rich light walnut patina. Place this charming work table in your kitchen or breakfast room for the ultimate Country French look; a true one of a kind! Old meat cleaver butcher knife included.
