About the Item

A exceptional large Art Deco butcher's block from the 1930s. Solidly crafted from beech wood. Since the Middle Ages, the profession of butcher has been one of the most respected and lucrative occupations. Even back then, the first butcher's blocks were created with a top consisting of many individual square pieces of hardwood set upright in a frame to ensure the most durable work surface possible. The principle has remained the same to this day. This authentic, exceptionally large model from the Art Deco period still attests to the quality of these impressive pieces, even after almost 100 years. Placed in a kitchen or restaurant, it is both practical and of enormous decorative value. Base with 7 stepped square legs and high frame with 3 large dovetailed drawers. On top is the solid worktop, up to 17 cm thick, with 2 brass knife slots and a removable backboard. Original Art Deco handles mounted on the drawers. A brass plaque on the backboard documents the manufacturer "Pierre Gyssels" in Brussels. Dimensions Height: ≈91 cm (worktop) or 114 cm (including backboard) / ≈35.82 inch. (worktop) or 44.88 inch. (including backboard) Width: 250 cm / 98.42 inch. Depth: 71 cm / 27.95 inch.
