Primitive Large Hand-Crafted Solid Oak Drain Board, Late 19th Century
About the Item
Primitive large solid oak hand-crafted draining board with wonderful, rustic patina, late 19th to early 20th century.
This is a very rare and robust kitchen essential of its era which speaks to a period when functionality and durability were paramount. The strong, heavy oak is 1" thick and the board sits level at 2" high with the elevating supports. Hand-carved drain channels are graduated in depth to efficiently guide water towards the sink while a carved concave grip underneath extends over the sink’s edge. One side has a rounded edge while the other is a beveled slant.
A charming and sturdy artifact from a bygone era of meticulous craftsmanship and practical design. It is in sound and solid condition with a warm, beautifully aged patina achieved only over time. A perfect piece for those looking to furnish a period kitchen authentically or a collector of fine vintage kitchenware. The board has been detailed and finished with high quality, food grade conditioning oil.
