Antique Victorian Sterling Silver and Glass Tazzas/Centrepieces

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver and glass tazzas/centrepieces; an addition to our antique Victorian silverware collection. These exceptional antique Victorian glass tazzas / centrepieces, with sterling silver mounts, have a circular rounded form onto an ornamental pedestal and domed spreading foot. The surface of each decorative centrepiece features an impressive glass dish embellished with fine cut and acid etched foliate decoration. The centre of each vessel features a hallmarked sterling silver panel, ornamented with engraved decoration reflecting the design to the glass. Each antique glass dish is encompassed with an impressive sterling silver mount, embellished with a stylised leaf design. The ornamental body of each tazza surmounts an exceptional detachable urn shaped pedestal, encompassed with swag decoration. The lower portion of the pedestal conjoins with an impressive acid etched glass foot to a further silver mount to the rim, reflecting the same design to the aforementioned border. Each tazza is fitted with an exceptional cast, hallmarked sterling silver coiled double-snake decorated handpiece to one side; the intertwining tails lay parallel to the underside of the glass vessel and conjoin with the pedestal. These exceptional examples of antique silverware were crafted by the renowned London silversmith John Samuel Hunt and bear the retailer's mark 'Hunt & Roskell' to the rim. Such antique silver and glass examples, in this exceptional condition, are rare to the market. Condition These antique decorative centrepieces are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. There are some minor dings to the pedestals, in keeping with age. The glass components of each centrepiece are in perfect condition. Due to the handmade nature of the craftsmanship and composition, the vertical alignment of the pair is non-identical; this does not detract from the aesthetically pleasing appearance or affect the integrity of the piece. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and tails of the snakes, in addition to part hallmarks to the central well are all very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these Victorian glass tazzas.
