Caravaggio Cup Murano Glass Centerpiece by Barovier & Toso from the 1980s

About the Item

Centerpiece cup in very fine blue Murano glass, made in inspiration of the Caravaggio cup by Barovier and Toso, in the 1980s Ø 22 cm h 17 cm Barovier & Toso is a glass factory, known for its handcrafted collections of decorative Murano glass in the 20th century. The chemical innovations of Angelo Barovier's crystalline glass production characterized the first collections composed of bottles and objects in colored glass. Subsequently, further innovations led to the creation of a series of designs using multicolored murrine. In the 1930s they began experimenting with heavier glass shapes with irregular surfaces and handles. In 1942 Barovier joined forces with the Toso brothers, other leading glassmakers, to form Barovier & Toso based in Palazzo Contarini in Murano. The company maintains traditional techniques but at the same time incorporates contemporary styles and forms. This table lamp is made entirely of Murano glass, both the bottom and the base, with a brass insert. The colors of the glass are perfectly worked and give warmth to the environment.

  • Blue Murano Glass Bottle by Carlo Moretti from the 1980s
    By Carlo Moretti
    Located in Milano, MI
Blue Murano glass bottle, made by Carlo Moretti in the 1980s. Measures: Ø cm 8, H cm 21 Carlo Nason, born in Murano in 1935 from one of the oldest glassmaking families on the island, he was a great master glassmaker. He grew up attending the glass masters who work in the family furnace, appropriating the most refined techniques of glass art, demonstrating an innovative and planning attitude that he employed in the field of design, but referring to tradition. In 1925 the Nason Moretti company was founded by the Nasone brothers, specializing in the production of furnishing accessories and tableware, where the mastery of the most refined Murano techniques is integrated with a modern vision and careful chromatic research. In 1955 Umberto Nason created an innovative project of two-tone bowls and glasses that earned him the Compasso d'Oro award. In the 1960s, with the second generation of the family, there was a great development of the company which still maintained its characteristic vocation for experimentation. In the 1980s, he looked at lighting with postmodern reinterpretations of designed lights, with the Carlo Moretti Studio line and the series of collectible goblets and glasses. Since the 1990s, the business has focused on new collections conceived in a modern and design-oriented key. Carlo Moretti of Venice, founded by Carlo in 1958 in Murano, passed to new ownership in 2013, but it is still an important company today due to its constant relationship with design. The company is known for the beauty and elegance of Murano glass, arriving not only in the tables of the most important families, but also in the modern tables of today. Worked with ancient and secret techniques, Nason Moretti glasses...
