Cuban-American Baruj Salinas Enameled Centerpiece on Copper Offered for sale is a rare and unusual piece of art from The renowned Cuban-American artist Baruj Salinas. Offered is a large copper enameled abstract centerpiece charger that is signed and dated '85 on the underside Baruj Salinas (1935-2024) was a Cuban-American contemporary visual artist and architect. He is recognized as a central figure in the establishment of the modern Latin American art market in South Florida. Born in Havana into a family where he painted with his mother, Salinas headed in an artistic direction early. He continued as self-taught. However, due to the changing political climate in Cuba with his mother's encouragement, Salinas moved to the United States to study painting in Kent State University on a scholarship. While at Kent State University. Salinas identified with the Abstract Expressionism movement, as be was exposed to the work of its leading members; deKooning, Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Zao Wou-Ki. His work has been exhibited and is widely known in Latin America, the United States and Europe and is present in important museums and contemporary art foundations such as, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Library (Madrid), the Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art (MACLA), the Museum of Modern Art (Mexico City), the José Luis Cuevas Museum (Mexico City), the Joán Miró Foundation (Barcelona), the Museum of Israel (Jerusalem), and the Museum of the Americas (Washington), among others.
