English Aesthetic Silver-Plate And Blown Glass Bridal Bowl
About the Item
Stunning and unusual, rare English Aesthetic period silver plate and hand blown, hand painted with bell flowers, glass bridal bowl, having a perching bird with open beak under a canopy of leaves and sitting on a rocky outcropping on a shaped base with very detailed engraving of flora and fauna.
Brides bowls are one of the most collected and coveted of all the luxury gifts that were in fact given to brides during the Victorian period. This over the top tradition started much earlier during the Georgian era but these fabulous creations reached their height of popularity between 1860 and 1900.
It is not overly unusual to find European glass paired with silverplate items made in the UK so I believe this is exactly what we have here. These large sophisticated factories were known to work together to supply the highest quality products offering only the best of both glass and silver.
