Large Italian parcel-gilt, silver, and hardstone centrepiece from Milan, c.1980 Italian, Late 20th Century Weight: 14.064 kg Height 40cm, width 69cm, depth 52cm Bearing the mark of Argenteria Fiorentini & Spertini, of Milan, c.1980, this magnificent centrepiece is a large, extensive, parcel-gilt, silver, and precious stone sculpture demonstrating the quality of Italian and particularly Milanese decorative metalwork from the late twentieth century.   It is mounted on a oval-shaped base which is cast with rocaille, and is raised on eight wide-ribbon scrolled feet. This is turn is centred by a large, bright, immaculately veneered malachite central oval, and it is mounted variously around the side with a series of carved hardstone fruits. Made of solid silver, both silver pieces are fully marked, 800 silver with the maker's mark. This substantial and beautifully-crafted neoclassical centrepiece was made in the 1920s and will look perfect on a hall/lobby table or in the dining room. The large silver tray is mounted on a wooden base and secured with brackets. The outside rail has a tube border with scallop shells. The polished surface of the silver tray is in very fine condition for its age and gives a good mirror to the light. The design motif is continued on the silver collar which slips over a copper liner. The copper liner-basket is cut to an exact outline and fit so that a floral arrangement can be executed elsewhere and then dropped into position. For convenience, this item comes with a cut crystal vase saint Louis of suitable height and shape which sits inside the copper lining. The overall size of this large piece with its mouth blown artistic shape, gorgeous green color and the hand painted all over 24 karat gilding really all adds up to one fantastic piece. While it may only be a little over 10 inches tall it's wider body adds to the overall wow factor. We have had similar shapes by Moser but in much smaller scale and dimensions.
