Borek Sipek (1949-2016) studied interior design at the school for Arts & Crafts in Prague from 1964-1968. He went to Germany to study architecture at the Kunsthochschule in Hamburg. He also studied aesthetics and philosophy. In 1983, he moved to the Netherlands and set up the design office that provided a base for his subsequent explorations of oriental and occidental Arts & Crafts. His fateful encounter with Driade resulted in furniture and objects. The ideas eventually found their way into the Eidos, Malastrana and Follies Collections. Sipek's systematic revisitations of traditional craft techniques and materials have won several prestigious awards including, the Croix Chevalier Dans L'ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres from the French Government in 1991. In 1993, he won the Prins Bernard Fons Prize for architecture and arts. Sipek has an international reputation as an imaginative and versatile artist. Polychromatic Interleave 006, is a unique handblown glass vessel with fine filigree white cane detail by the British artist Liam Reeves. The three colours of glass in red, blue and green, merge in the making to create a larger spectrum of hues where they meet, covering the white canes below. A truly exquisite piece.
Liam Reeves has been making glass professionally since 1998 when he graduated from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in three-dimensional design. During this time he has honed his skills whilst working in the glass industry for some of the best glassmakers in the UK. In 2009 Reeves studied for an MA at the RCA in order to explore the creative possibilities of the medium of glassblowing. He is currently hot-glass technician at the very same and prestigious Royal College of Art in London.
