The SANA collection is the first ever home wares collection developed by designer Tom Fereday and was conducted from a research-based approach into wellbeing within the domestic living space. Material research focused on natural materials which may be subtle yet retain a high perceived value. The resulting chosen material, solid cast quartz glass was selected for its high degree of optical transparency, natural variation in finish, thermal excellence and overall weight and quality. Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products, to design from the inside out. By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment. Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across Europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012. I use the technique of 'sang-gam' (=inlay work) with my special tool, which I made myself, and create delicate and exact lines, which are all handmade, although they are often mistakenly considered manufactured. In the notched hollow lines, I delicately place the subtle different colors one by one, just as hyperrealist painters do. It took me about a year to get a detailed "moon" pattern on the porcelain "moon jar". I am a Berlin-based ceramic artist from Korea and these are very early works made in Berlin, Moon jar is a type of traditional Korean white porcelain...

A stoneware vase by Paul Chaleff (1947-) made in 1984. Chaleff is known for his wood fired ceramic vessel without glaze or sometimes natural ash glaze. The vase on offer is of a highly geometrical form with handcut multifaceted lower body that rises and morphs into a rounded upper body with two hand-molded ears above the shoulder. The surface shows nice firing color variations due to the iron oxidation in the kiln and also carved lines left intentionally by the artist. It is marked with the artist's incised signature and date 84. This piece has a very strong Japanese wabi-sabi appeal which is the aesthetic influence of the artist's work and makes a visually arresting center piece for any interior. "Paul Chaleff is known for his large-scale wood fired ceramic sculptures and vessels. He also created a large body of wheel thrown functional vessels. His vessels are strongly influenced by Japanese pottery, especially the work of one of Japan’s National Living Treasures, Takeshi Nakazato. Chaleff was one of the first American potters using a Japanese style Anagama kiln and became a leader in the introduction of this form of wood-burning kiln. In 1989, he began a regular collaboration with the British sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. Over a period of thirteen years, they created nearly 50 works, both figurative and abstract. Caro’s sculpture has had direct influence on Chaleff’s work as has the sculpture of Isamu Noguchi, and the ceramics of John Mason...
