About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. A fascinating centerpiece in the shape of a leaf in colored ceramic; the craftsman has given the leaf a pleasant and well-proportioned shape, but what most seduces us is the choice and the exceptional combination of colors, a visual explosion of great effect. It was made between 1949 and 1952 in one of the few remaining workshops in Vallauris, as indicated by the mark impressed on the bottom. Vallauris, located between Cannes and Antibes, is the French town of clay and handmade ceramics. In the heart of the pretty, colorful alleys and sunny balconies full of flowers, Vallauris, possesses a treasure unequaled in France: the savoir-faire of ceramics that it has been perpetuating for centuries. Since the Gallo-Roman era, pottery has been promoted in Vallauris through culinary ceramics. Pans, pots, and jugs raised Vallauris' reputation in the eyes of the world, mainly due to the material's resistance to high temperatures. Picasso's arrival in the 1950s elevated Vallauris to the status of the ceramic capital of France because he brought with him many artists who wanted to learn about the arts of fire. Picasso himself (who moved to Vallauris in 1948), but also Chagall or Miró have created a wide range of designs creating a new era for ceramics. Their creations can be admired in the stores and galleries of Vallauris in the form of works of art or everyday objects such as vases, plates, glasses, bowls, cups... All the pieces that come out of the workshops of Vallauris made by passionate ceramic masters are made entirely by hand. The ancient activity of ceramics has been greatly reduced in recent years: of more than 250 centers of production of ceramics on the territory of the municipality, today only a few artisans appreciate this tradition. Measures diameter cm.35 height cm.9. The centerpiece is in good overall condition and has some inappreciable chipping. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
