Antique German Westerwald Merkelbach and Wick cobalt blue salt glaze beer / drink pitcher / ewer / jug featuring a floral leaf theme with Gnomes / Dwarfs drinking and harvesting. Text reads: Das Jahr ist ontbraun Bier ist neralheu. The year is ontbraun beer is neral hay. The jug was made by Merkelbach & Wick at their production facilities Steingut- und Steinzeugfabrik, Kunsttöpferei sowie Zinngiesserei in Bahnstraße 9, Grenzhausen, Hesse-Nassau, Prussia around the early 1880s. The base mark within a roundel comprises M&W above Gr and is impressed with a metal punch. DIMENSIONS 9” x 7.5” x 12.75” (Width x Depth x Height)
