Bertoncello Italian Vintage Vase in White and Glazed Clay

About the Item

Original and unusual ceramic vase; the vase was made of white clay and underwent a first firing, then the artist performed the external part with a special and secret process to obtain the beautiful white glaze resembling a fresh glaze; a second firing allowed to obtain a particular and unique object; the vase has an organic shape that emphasizes its volumes while the oval and recessed hole and the rounded lines give lightness and softness to the whole. It was produced between 1965 and 1970 by the Bertoncello Ceramic he Company based on a design by Giovanni Bertoncello in collaboration with the well-known artistic innovator Roberto Rigon. Bertoncello Ceramic he was founded in 1956 in Schiavon, in the province of Vicenza (Italy) by partners Lini, MarCo Pizzato, and Giovanni Bertoncello, under the name "LPB" soon changed its name to "Bertoncello Ceramic he d'Arte" and the management remained exclusively with Giovanni Bertoncello who, thanks to his artistic skills and entrepreneurial flair, led the firm to achieve wide success both in Italy and on the foreign market so much so that in the early 1970s the factory employed more than 30 workers. Unfortunately, not much is known about the company because all of its catalogues and archives were destroyed when the firm closed in 1999. The forms of Bertoncello's ceramics are often very sculptural and geometric and look like small studies or maquettes for massive modernist sculptures yet to be built. This sculptural look of many pieces has been enhanced by the use of feet that subtly lift the piece from the surface on which it sits. They are reminiscent of the works of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth and the architecture of the period. The vase is in excellent condition. Measures 15 cm diameter, 5 cm depth. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom made wooden crates, Styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
