Early Mason's Ironstone Desert Plate in Oriental Pheasant Pattern, Ca 1818
About the Item
This is a very decorative Desert Plate by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England in the Oriental Pheasant pattern, dating to the early period of Mason's ironstone, circa 1818.
The plate is circular in shape with a notched rim and is decorated in one of Mason's most vividly coloured and sought after chinoiserie patterns, the "Oriental Pheasant" pattern, as documented on page 120 of; A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Masons Collectors' club.
The pattern would have been transfer printed then hand-painted in bold enamels, with a particularly colourful and distinctive border design.
The base has the large crown and banner mark printed in blue, together with the impressed single line mark MASONS PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA dating it to the early 19th century, circa 1813 to 1820.
Overall an early Masons Desert Plate in a beautiful hand painted pattern.
