Ernest Miller Ceramic Pitcher, Pale Grey

About the Item

This new item is a glazed heavyweight sand colored stoneware that is glazed with a pale grey cast and detailed with olive brown. Signed by the artist. Created by the artist for Danish teak Classics fall/winter collection, one of a kind. Appropriate as a stand-alone object of art but also usable for serving or displaying collections of smaller objects. Ernest Miller is a ceramicist who harkens from the Midwest and resides in MN. Inspiration for his work comes from field landscapes and architectural features such as barns found in the Midwest as starting points for ceramic vessels and glaze surfaces. Observations of source material may be abstracted using elements to complement functional or sculptural forms. Growing up on a farm in Southern Illinois instilled the virtues of utility, where the everyday use of a tool or piece of equipment was relied upon. He thinks of the role they fulfill with humanity. They are tools for storing or turning soil: as pottery is for eating and drinking. He feels a kinship with these rural icons. This has brought to appropriate line and surface of these influences into sculpture and pottery. Pieces usually begin on the potter’s wheel and later hand altered and trimmed. Once dried and bisque fired they are coated with glaze and finish fired to 2.250 degrees Fahrenheit.
