About the Item
This exquisite ceramic box by renowned Swedish artist Hans Hedberg is crafted in the form of an organic, egg-shaped object. The exterior surface is smooth with a soft, natural beige glaze, delicately speckled with yellow accents, mimicking the natural imperfections of stone or an egg’s shell. The interior reveals a warm terracotta-orange hue with subtle, textured mottling, encircled by a bold black rim, providing a striking contrast to the pale exterior. The box opens horizontally into two distinct, perfectly aligned halves. Signed by Hans Hedberg under the base, this piece reflects the artist’s fascination with nature’s forms and his mastery of ceramic sculpture. It functions both as a sculptural object and a discreet container. An iconic example of Hedberg’s refined craftsmanship and organic aesthetic, blending natural inspiration with modernist clarity, this piece would make a prized addition to any contemporary ceramics collection.
Hans Hedberg (1917–2007) was a Swedish ceramicist celebrated for his organic forms and monumental fruit sculptures in glazed stoneware. He worked in Biot, south of France for many years.
