About the Item

Beautiful Keramis vase with repeating stylized bird design around the center. Measures: 12" H x 8" D. Mint condition with no flaws. Marked on the base: Keramis, made in Belgium and D4188. Keramis was known for its highly stylized designs by Charles Catteau. Boch Frères Keramis (Co.) was a Belgian ceramic company known for their early 20th century Art Deco styles, and use of black outlined designs. Boch Frères Keramis was founded in 1841 by Eugène and Victor Boch and their brother-in-law, Jean-Baptiste Nothomb, in La Louviere, Belgium. In 1906, French ceramicist Charles Catteau joined the company as artistic director, a position he held for 42 years. He was ultimately responsible for the company’s transition from producing utilitarian objects to esteemed works of art.
