About the Item

Particular and unique ceramic plate with abstract multicolor design; this exclusive plate is the work of the company Nicola Fasano made in 1999 from the previous ancient family companies; Nicola (1923-2009) entrepreneur-ceramist was manager since 1948; The company is located in Grottaglie (Taranto) in Apulia (Italy) which has been a center for the processing of terracotta and Majolica since the second century B.C.; the production of Fasano has been carried out for 18 generations inside very large caves suitable to house every phase of the processing and the tools of the trade, especially the wood-burning ovens, very useful in order to make the finished work excellent, a centuries-old tradition with strong roots in the past but always with an eye to the future. Ceramiche Nicola Fasano is one of the reference companies of Apulian craftsmanship. The production embraces traditional shapes, finishes, and techniques, with the development of new decorations and colors. Thus are born artistic ceramics that transpose contemporary design into an object of potential common use. The decoration of the objects is done by hand with triple firing enameling, each piece is handmade, from modeling to enameling, so each imperfection represents an added value for this product, making it unique; the photo of the bottom of the plate highlights this particular work. Mastery, artistic ability, sobriety, expressive sharpness, and elegance have allowed the company to make itself known all-over the world, even in the aristocratic one. Many works realized by the Fasano Company are preserved in private collections and exhibited in national and foreign museums. Measures: diameter cm.32, height cm. 2.

A lovely and refined set of four fine ceramic ashtrays in the shape of a shell; they were hand-molded, then fired in the kiln a first time, then on the white majolica the inner decoration was done with a delicate shaded blue color at this point the objects underwent a second firing, the outer part was then decorated and finally, the ashtrays were fired a third time to finally fix the colors thus creating four small works of art. Born in Melrose, Ohio in 1922, Clyde Burt would go on to become a major voice in American studio ceramics. He studied at Fort Wayne Art School and later at the Cape Cod School of Art before landing at the Cranbrook Academy of Art to study under Maija Grotell. While Grotell is responsible for bringing the wheel to Cranbrook, Burt made it central to his practice and his thrown works express the same endless curiosity as his teacher. Upon returning to Ohio, Burt built a home studio on his family’s farmland near the Little Auglaize River and harvested rich clay from the surrounding area. He started every day at 5:30 in the morning and would work until he knew he “had enough”. Constantly experimenting with glazes, colors and surface decoration, Burt painstakingly recorded his successes and failures in a small notebook...
