About the Item
Rare and excellent Goldscheider art ceramic figure of the 1930's:
Young standing Japanese woman in traditional kimono with wide sleeves and colored floral decoration on dark blue background, tiara in her upswept hair, looking to the left holding a lantern aloft with her left hand, leading her right forearm to the side in a gesture.
On black diamond-shaped base with elevations at the corners, artist's signature 'Lorenzl' on the back on the hem of the dress.
Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), was an Austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl designed numerous ceramics for Friedrich Goldscheider and Keramos and was one of the most popular artists of Art Deco.
