Goldscheider Vienna Art Déco Marlene Dietrich, 'Fashion Lady', By C. Weiss, 1937

About the Item

A very rare and unusual design: Depiction of Marlene Dietrich as a fashionista in a long, light-grey skirt with a wide hemline that touches the floor, clinging around her slender legs. She is wearing a black, low-cut, fitted top with a peplum with an elaborate and rich stylised flame decoration in grey, red and gold, both arms on her hips, with her pointed black shoe protruding from under the robe at the front. The figure is based on the hem of the skirt without a pedestal. Manufactory: Goldscheider Vienna / Austria Technique: hand crafted ceramics, finest hand painting, glossy finish Designer: Claire Weiss /= Klára Herczeg (1906-1997) Sculptor, childhood in Vienna, apprenticeship as a sculptor in the Arsenal foundry in Vienna, 1924-1928 at the Budapest Art School, then studied porcelain sculpture in Berlin, designs for several factories.
