About the Item
Rare goldscheider figure of the 1920s:
The standing dancer wears a pink cylinder hat on her short brown locks. The flower-patterned top of her costume is tight-fitting and sleeveless. Tilting her head slightly to the right, she pulls up her shoulders and lifts the front hem of the frilled skirt, presenting her legs.
On a cream-colored faceted round base, artist's signature 'Lorenzl' on the top behind the figure.
Designed by Josef Lorenzl (1892 - 1950), one of the most important designers
who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory in the period of 1920-1940.
This Model 5523 was created circa 1925.

Josef Lorenzl
Josef Lorenzl was born in Vienna on 1st September 1892. He started out working at the Vienna Arsenal in the foundry, where he learned the techniques of bronze casting. Working from a studio in the company’s grounds, he was able to produce many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Lorenzl was captivated by the female form he became well known for his shapely dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also was a gifted ceramicist, producing pieces for Goldscheider.
